Project Spotlight: Transformed Beach Condo

on Sunday, 09 December 2018.

Condo renovations can be tough, many clients want to reinvent their home but are constrained by the existing footprint. It was no different for this project, an aging but well-loved beach condo that didn’t bring in natural light and featured dated design elements like exposed block walls. But with some creative thinking and attention to detail, we were able to brighten this home with new windows, expand the space by opening and updating the kitchen, and refreshing the master bathroom.

Q: Tell us about this remodel? What were the primary needs of the homeowners and how did they want to transform their home?
A: For this project, our client was looking to update their well-loved beach condo while maintaining the existing footprint. To open up the space, we expanded their kitchen and made the room more functional, added a master bath, converted the first-floor powder room into a laundry room, and added Marvin Integrity windows and doors.

Q: What did the condo look like before the renovation and how was it transformed?
A: Before we started, the condo didn't feature much natural light, had some dated design elements, and included exposed block walls which made much of the home "feel like a basement."

Q: What is your favorite feature of the renovated condo?
A: We really like how the updated kitchen makes the first floor more livable. Not only is the kitchen larger but it also includes new appliances and a layout that maximizes the condo's footprint. Also, the new master bathroom is incredible. Updating a home within the existing footprint can be a challenge, and we're really pleased with how the master bath turned out. The room includes ample storage and a pocket door separating the shower from the vanity providing privacy and access.

Q: What do the homeowners think about their updated home?
A: They love it! Their beach house has new life, and they can't wait for summer!

Q: What's a piece of advice you would give a reader thinking about a condo renovation?
A: If you’re interested in updating your condo, don't feel constrained by your footprint. Get creative; it's amazing what an open floor plan can do!
