North Beach Cottage

Wednesday, 13 January 2016.

The beach has been this family’s gathering place for generations, and their new home was designed to accommodate the tradition for generations to come.  The Dutch-gambrel roof massing harkens back to shingle-style homes in the Hamptons.  The Pella windows and the cedar shingle siding & roofing complete the traditional styling of the exterior.  The interior makes extensive use of pine paneling & flooring, evoking the turn-of-the-century charm of a classic beach cottage.  Design by Louise Brooks http://www.brooksandfalotico.com

Seaside Estate

Monday, 11 January 2016.

This home opens itself to its unique site, with beachfront views to the east and lakefront views to the west.  The open floor plan on the main level provides plenty of gathering space for family & friends while preserving quiet space for the owners on the upper level.  The Ipe wood decking extends the comfy feel of the pine-paneled interior to the decks (seven) and screen porches (two).   The lakeside patio includes a firepit, fishpond and garden walk.  Natural cedar shingle siding and roofing, together with Pella windows, keeps the exterior low-maintenance.

Atlantic Retreat

Wednesday, 06 January 2016.

Facing the need for more extensive accommodations for their extended family, the clients came to the realization that their existing summer house could not be modified to meet those needs. As a result, the existing cottage was removed, and a new one constructed to their specifications.

The house is designed and constructed to reflect the classic, shingle-style architecture that the clients love. Low-maintenance products were used wherever possible. These include James Hardie fiber-cement siding, Pella windows, Azek exterior trim, Timbertech decking and HB&G columns and railings.

The overall feel of the house is comfort and warmth coupled with open, airy spaces that give uninterrupted views of the ocean beyond. It is a place for family, fun, relaxation and renewal.  (Design by David Dutton, www.ABODESDesigns.com)

Ocean Aire

Monday, 04 January 2016.

This North Bethany beach house was designed by Mark McInturff for three generations of an active Washington-area family. The two wings of the house follow the property lines of the pie-shaped lot, leaving an exciting atrium space between for stairs, bridges and elevator. Ample decks and porches from every level allow for informal outdoor entertaining. Grey cedar shingles and white trim help the house fit in to its community, while the light, bright and colorful interior reflects the spirit of this family.  An addition in 2007 added a bedroom and additional deck space to accommodate the grandkids.  Energy-efficient Pella windows are used throughout.   www.McInturffArchitects.com
